Google very recently added Google Groups to the apps suite finally giving the service a forum/public folder/usenet type service. Much handier than email for group work as it allows threaded conversations that everyone gets to see and reply to in one convenient location.

Sounds great. The unfortunate reality of simplifying a group project with Google Apps is that at least half of your group mates are still using the Yahoo! account they made when they were 15 and, for no justifiable reason, can't be bothered with the two-minute process of creating a Google one. Then there's teaching them to trust the user-friendly interface (always an inexplicable challenge) and pretending not to notice the sighs and eyerolls.

Believe me, I'm with you, but in *my* "tenure" at college, I've found it's not good enough to have the best tools available (for free, no less!). You also have be a good salesman to get people to trust you and embrace them.

If you use a Google Group you can invite the groups email address to documents or folders and all of the members of the group will have access. Then if you remove someone from the group they automatically lose access to the documents.

Re: Google Groups–
Similar to what Colin notes, many group mates haven't ever used an internet forum, and 99% have no idea what Usenet is!

I'm certainly not discounting the viability of Groups (or even Wave!) as killer ways for teams to get things done, it's just that I feel that a group leader needs to be conscious of that area where too much time is spent explaining how the technology works instead of actually planning the work.

(I can't help but have flashbacks to using Wave for a group project last semester and spending a solid week explaining what it was before reverting to the setup in this blog post...)

This is great article and even though
I don’t use Articulate (might have to look into it now, though)
this gave me a lot of ideas on how to make tabular data more engaging.
