Hey everyone,
So, I know there have been some questions about what project I am working on for the summer, and I’m happy to share some more info with you. :-) I'm working on a subset of the Chrome team, and my project for the summer will be to sync user sessions from one instance of the browser to another. This will mean that you can switch computers and bring up everything you were looking at on your original computer.
When I first learned about what I would be working on, I was a bit worried that it might be too big of a task to take on in one summer. But after breaking down what needs to be done, I think it will be doable. There are just a few things that will make it super challenging. An example problem is how often should a client sync changes to the server? We want a user's data to be as up-to-date as possible, so that he or she can open a tab on one computer and immediately switch to a different computer and see the changes but we also do not want to unnecessarily flood the server. Of course there are more things to consider which will make this task significantly harder. I know, however, that if I am struggling my team is always there to help.
That is a bit about what I have been working on but other than working hard, I have gotten to do a lot of fun stuff at Google. Last week was Google Serve week so we got to do community service. This was completely optional, but super fun. I signed up to work on a farm. It was a really neat experience because the farm is located in the middle of a residential part of Seattle. I was on a team that was assigned to weed and rake. It was a really good time to bond with my fellow Googlers but I had trouble with all the spiders living in the plants. Two of them crawled on me! :( I survived though with this blogpost as proof.
Well, that's about all I have for now but I will leave you with a...
Random Google Fact: At Google, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are free :-) Also,
they have a rule that no one can be more than 100 feet away from free
food at all times. So they have mini kitchens full of snacks and
drinks for employees.
Bye for now.
