Google Docs gets an epic makeover
April 15, 2010
If you already use and love Google Docs, you’re in for a treat. If you haven’t tried it yet, this is a great time to get started.
Earlier this week
we announced
preview versions of the next generation of Google document and spreadsheet editors and a new standalone drawings editor, all built with an even greater focus on speed and collaboration.
Google Docs is already a great way to work with others – like classmates, professors, and friends – on things like group projects, class notes, trip planning and term papers; and now things just got even better!
What are some of the new things you can go try right now?
For
Documents
:
Better collaboration with character by character editing and side-bar chats
Increased speed and responsiveness
Better import/export fidelity so you don’t have to spend time fiddling with formatting
Revamped comments that preserve document layout
Real margins and improved image layouts
For
Spreadsheets
:
Enhanced speed (it’s wicked fast now)
New features like a formula bar for cell editing, auto-complete, drag and drop columns
Not to mention a new
standalone drawings editor
that lets you collaborate in real time on diagrams, designs, and other graphics, which will definitely come in handy while slaving away on your finals in the next few months.
To try out these new features, click “New version” at the top of any spreadsheet or go to the ‘Document Settings’ page and select ‘New version of Google documents.’ You can create new drawings from your document list directly.
For more detailed information, you can check out posts on the
Official
,
Enterprise
and
Docs
blogs and watch this great new video
here
that helps explain some of the key benefits and changes:
There will also be a live webinar on Tuesday, April 20th @ 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm GMT to learn more about the new features so

if you’re interested.
