Our special awards for Intel ISEF 2010
April 19, 2010
A while back
we announced
that we would be sponsoring the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (
ISEF
), a project of the
Society for Science & the People
. Each year, Intel ISEF brings together more than 1,500 high school students from over 50 countries to showcase and discuss their research and compete for millions of dollars of prize winnings.
At this year's fair, we'll be giving out our Google Special Awards to recognize Intel ISEF finalists whose research demonstrates the creativity and scope necessary to tackle real-world issues. We'll be giving out awards in three separate categories:
cs Connect
: Innovative, cross-disciplinary connections change the way we look at the world. How are you applying computer science to further scientific inquiry in your field?
Secret Change Agent
: The most innovative changes make our world a better place. If you took your project out of the lab and into the real world, how would it create positive impact in your neighborhood and in our global society?
The Future of Energy
: Renewable energy means a cleaner, brighter tomorrow. How will your project contribute to and shape the future of clean energy?
One winner will be selected in each category – each winner will take home $10,000 and an invitation to present their project at
our headquarters
in Mountain View on Friday, May 14th after the Grand Awards Ceremony. If you're a finalist for Intel ISEF 2010, we encourage you to
apply for our awards
by May 3rd, 2010.
On our Science Fair Portal, you can also find a schedule of our
events and activities
during the fair and explore
our library of resources
to learn about the latest innovation at Google.
When I was in high school, making it to ISEF was one of my major goals. The skills that it took to achieve that goal, documenting my research, answering tough questions from judges, staying up for too late coding, continue to help me as an engineer today. And I'm not alone – many of us Googlers can point to this competition as the start of our scientific careers. That's why I'm proud we're sponsoring Intel ISEF this year, and helping to engage another generation of students in science.
We're looking forward to Intel ISEF 2010 and hope to see you there!
